Vale Dr Arthur Hodgson

There is a notice in the hallway of the squash courts at the SportUNE gym at the University of New England in Armidale.

Today (June 2023), when I saw it again, it occurred to me that many of you might like to remember our mate, Arthur Hodgson, who was quite notable in 1981 (see image).

In that year, he was doing his PhD at UNE but still found time to excel at squash.

Arthur completed his PhD at the University of New England and was renowned for his practical and scientific knowledge of water logging in cotton soils.

An example of one of his publications, from 1982, is “The effects of duration, timing and chemical amelioration of short-term waterlogging during furrow irrigation of cotton in a cracking grey clay”.

Just remembering a mate,
Jim Scott
